Keeping up with its objective to support and strengthen children
living with cancer, SpeakGuru Foundation is organizing two mega charity events-
‘Hair Cutting Campaign’ and ‘Music Against Cancer’ on June 20 and 21
respectively under the banner ‘Hair for Hope: lose your hair, brighten a heart’.
Interacting with media persons here at Seasons Café,
Kohima on Wednesday, SpeakGuru Foundation member Ruokuolhou Kuotsu
informed that the Hair Cutting Campaign in support to children afflicted with
cancer will be held at D Seluoba Market, opposite to UBC, Kohima. He said the
campaign is a charity event where any individual can take a regular haircut and
donate to the cause.
“By participating, we can show the little children who
are undergoing chemotherapy that it is perfectly ok to be bald,” Kuotsu said.
He explained that the foundation strives to help
children living with cancer with a hope to narrow the gap between needy
families and the necessary but costly treatments.
It was learnt that SpeakGuru Foundation has been
supporting more than 15 children suffering from cancer during the past four to
five years. Currently, there are 8 children and they are undergoing
chemotherapy in different stages. They are, Henry (14) from Tseminyu who is
diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma; Nelivi (2) from Dimapur who suffer from
cancer of the eyes; Khrowo-o (11) from Khezhakeno village, Namwang (4) from
Longleng and Moamenla (9) from Kohima diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic
Leukemia; Nuyamong (10) from Kiphire and Huku from Ketsapo village, both
diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma; and Vinito from Zunheboto, who suffer from
Seminoma Testis Metastasis to the lung.
SpeakGuru Foundation members informed that these
children will grace the events with their presence.
On June 21, coinciding with the World Music Day and in
collaboration with the SpeakGuru Foundation, several noted Naga female artistes
will take to stage ‘Music Against Cancer’ at RCEMPA, Jotsoma. Speaking on
behalf of the artistes, Mengu Soukhrie said, “We are bringing our love into
action but we cannot support this cause on our own.” She appealed to all to
step forward and contribute as a team to the cause. The artistes who will be
performing at ‘Music Against Cancer’ include, Mengu, Kenei Chale, Topeni
Assumi, Tetseo Sisters and Arenungla Longkumer. The event will also showcase a
sand artist as well as young upcoming musicians.
The organizers informed that tickets for the music
event are priced at Rs.1000 and Rs.2000 (admit two) for a limited 500 seating
capacity. The proceedings of the two events will go towards the treatment costs
of the children living with cancer.
